Who We Are

What is the ITA?

The Idaho Trappers Association Inc., was founded in 1979, and organized exclusively for charitable, educational, or recreational purposes. The structure of the organization has been efficiently designed with regards to the membership - being the body - throughout Idaho.

The board members consist of President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and five Directors throughout the state who correlate with Idaho's Fish and Game. These members constitute the ITA's Board of Directors with a total of twelve decision making votes for the interests of the general membership.

The organization is affiliated with the National Trappers Association and other affiliates on a national level. Idaho is represented By Due Authority to each affiliate by an elected Representative from the membership. The Association has various standing committees and reserves Committee Appointment privileges, for special handling of issues important to Idaho Wildlife and Trappers.


Who is the ITA?

The Nature of the business of the Idaho Trappers Association and its objectives are:

  • To promote sound conservation, legislation, and administrative procedures to save and faithfully defend from waste the natural resources of Idaho
  • To promote sound environmental educational programs
  • To promote a continued annual fur harvest using the best tools presently available for that purpose
  • To encourage sensible legislation and administrative procedures pertaining to the management of fur bearing animals, with opposition of unacceptable legislation

The Association's priority objective is:

  • To educate young trappers in the harvesting and management of Idaho's resource
  • To better educate the public on the consumptive use of wild animals as a necessary wildlife management tool

OBJECTIVES

  1. To preserve trapping in the state of Idaho
  2. To provide information which will allow Association members to engage in the sport of responsible trapping
  3. To promote trapper and trap line safety
  4. To encourage the practice of good sportsmanship and compliance with local, state, and federal game laws
  5. To support wildlife conservation programs and to assist wildlife management programs in Idaho
  6. To strengthen landowner/trapper cooperation and understanding
  7. To increase knowledge and practice of trapping skills, marksmanship, and other outdoor recreation skills that is harmonious with the sport of trapping
  8. To cooperate with other organizations that share likewise objectives

MEMBERSHIP

Any citizen of the United States may become a member of the Association after payment of the usual initiation fee and dues. All officers of the Idaho Trappers Association must be a resident of the state of Idaho and must be 18-years of age or older.

Association members shall advocate to the Idaho Trappers Association Trapper Code of Ethics as follows:

  • I shall consider myself an invited guest of the landowner, seeking their permission, and so conducting myself that I may be welcome in the future
  • I shall obey the rules of safe trapping and safe gun handling and shall insist that others who trap with me do the same
  • I shall obey all game laws and regulations, and will insist that my companions do likewise
  • I shall not tamper with the traps of another trapper
  • I shall avoid setting traps in areas where domestic animals may be caught and release and notify the rightful owners of domestic pets or proper authorities when possible
  • Upon request, I shall assist farmers and landowners with predator problems
  • I shall check my traps as required by law
  • I shall dispose of animal carcasses properly
  • I shall aide new trappers when possible
  • I shall strive to maintain a good relationship with other sportsmen
  • I shall support conservation efforts that will assure good trapping for future generations of America
  • I shall pass on to younger trapper’s attitudes and skills essential to be a true sportsman
